Using a KM Team
Studies
show that the most valuable KM services team or unit is a separate entity within an
organization. KM processes
support knowledge processes, which in turn support business processes.
It is
in the interest of the process manager to leverage the expertise of this
group to help increase its business process performance.
The
KM Group plays a role similar to other internal services groups within the
enterprise. Separate groups within the enterprise
commonly manage these
secondary processes. A
manager might turn to Human Resources for hiring and training, an Office of
Economics for business intelligence, or a Business Process Redesign Group to
make changes to her processes. When she needs help to set up
a KM program, she should use the KM group as consultants and managers.
